Electrical Panel Upgrade & Repair
Your electrical panel is where power from the utility is divided and sent through the rest of the building. When it can no longer keep up, the symptoms are hard to miss: breakers that trip whenever the microwave and the air conditioner run together, lights that dim when a large appliance starts, a panel that feels warm, or a burning smell near the service equipment.
Many homes across Long Beach and the South Bay still run on 60- or 100-amp service installed decades ago, when a household drew a fraction of the power it does now. Add a remodeled kitchen, central air, a home office and an EV charger, and that original capacity runs out quickly. Upgrading to 200-amp service provides the headroom those loads require, along with modern breakers, proper grounding and bonding, and a panel that inspectors and insurers recognize as current.
We handle the process end to end: a load calculation to size the new service correctly, permit filing with the local building department, coordination with the utility for the disconnect and reconnect, the installation itself, and the final inspection. The physical work is usually a single day, though permit and utility scheduling affect the overall timeline.
Not every panel needs replacing. Sometimes the real fault is a failed breaker, a loose lug, or a corroded bus bar, and we will say so when a repair is the honest answer. We also evaluate older panels with known defects and explain what we find in plain language, so you can make the call with the full picture rather than a sales pitch.

Interior Wiring & Rewiring
Wiring is the part of a building nobody thinks about until something goes wrong. In older South Bay housing stock, that often means cloth-insulated conductors that have gone brittle, ungrounded two-prong outlets, aluminum branch circuits from the late 1960s and 70s, or a patchwork of additions made by previous owners without permits.
We rewire whole homes and we also do the far more common partial job: bringing a single room, a kitchen, or an addition up to current code without tearing into walls that do not need it. That usually means running dedicated circuits for the loads that deserve them, adding grounded receptacles, installing GFCI and AFCI protection where the code requires it, and replacing junctions that were never boxed properly.
For remodels and tenant improvements, the wiring has to be coordinated with everyone else on the job. We plan rough-in around framing and drywall schedules so the electrical is inspected and signed off without holding up the trades that follow. On occupied homes, we sequence the work so you are not without power for longer than necessary, and we are careful about access, dust and patching.
Everything is permitted where a permit is required and inspected on completion. That matters beyond compliance: unpermitted electrical work surfaces during a sale, and an inspection report is the documentation that it was done correctly.
If you are planning a remodel or you have outlets that no longer feel safe, call (310) 629-9362 and we will walk the space with you.
Recessed Lighting Installation
Recessed lighting changes how a room reads more than almost any other electrical change. Done well, it removes the shadows and dead corners that a single ceiling fixture leaves behind. Done carelessly, it produces glare, hot spots, and a ceiling that looks like a runway.
The difference is layout. We plan spacing around what the room is actually for — work surfaces in a kitchen, seating in a living room, mirrors in a bath — rather than dropping cans on an even grid. Beam angle, color temperature and trim style all get chosen for the space instead of defaulted, and we walk you through those decisions before anything is cut.
The install itself has to respect the ceiling. Older Long Beach homes frequently have plaster and lath rather than drywall, which cuts differently and cracks if it is rushed. Where fixtures sit against insulation, IC-rated housings are required. California’s Title 24 energy standards also govern efficacy and control requirements for lighting in many situations, so fixtures and dimmers are selected to keep the job compliant.
For existing ceilings, LED retrofit modules often fit into housings already in place, which brings down both cost and disruption. For new construction and open ceilings, we set new-work housings during rough-in with dimming controls specified from the start, since dimmers and LED drivers have to be matched or the result flickers.

Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting
Most electrical calls start with a symptom rather than a diagnosis: an outlet that stopped working, a breaker that will not stay set, lights that flicker when the dryer runs, a switch that has become warm, or a faint burning smell that comes and goes.
Those symptoms have very different causes, and the work is in finding the actual one. A dead receptacle might be a tripped GFCI three rooms away, a back-stabbed connection that has loosened over years of thermal cycling, or a damaged conductor inside a wall. Guessing leads to replacing parts that were never the problem. We trace circuits properly, test under load, and identify the fault before quoting a repair.
Some symptoms should not wait. A burning smell, scorch marks around a device, a panel that is warm to the touch, or a breaker that trips immediately every time it is reset all indicate a fault capable of starting a fire. Shut off the circuit at the panel if you can do it safely, and call rather than continuing to reset the breaker.
We repair and replace switches, receptacles, fixtures, breakers and damaged circuits for both homes and businesses, and we explain what failed and why, so the same fault does not return in six months. Where a repair is a stopgap for a larger problem, we say that plainly instead of leaving you to find out later.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. Call (310) 629-9362 and describe what you are seeing.
